Personalised Nutrition

As a professional (and personal) passion of mine, personalised nutrition has piqued my interest for many years now. I became curious about the concept when treating clients who displayed drastically different to reactions to foods. I started doing research and soon implemented personalised nutrition planning into my practice.

Human physiology has unique nuances that impact the way we metabolise or store nutrients. Foods can also make people feel differently too depending on their individual constitution; it all comes down to how our individual physiology and genetics respond to different foods.

I think we are all aware by now that there is no single approach to nutrition that suits everyone. Our instinct to listen to our bodies is often overwhelmed by the barrage of information that comes at us from all angles. So how do we break through the external influence and find out what foods are best for us? Well, tune in because you might be surprised at the foods that help your mind and body to thrive!

If you listen closely, your body will tell you what it needs.

Personalising your nutrition means considering the following:

  • Your goals – What is it you want to achieve? Do you want to lose weight, regain your energy, balance your hormones or improve digestion etc?
  • Past & family history – Do you or any of your family suffer from chronic disease or  have any pre-existing conditions?  What symptoms are you currently experiencing? Do you have trouble sleeping?
  • Lifestyle – How much exercise do you do each week? Are you suffering from stress? Do you need a simple to follow meal plan for a busy family?
  • Allergies – Do you have any known (or suspected) allergies or intolerances to food?

We are all unique, with different environmental influences that impact genetic expression. Even twins may not have the same reaction to foods, as they have each been exposed to different environmental stimuli. Consider your dietary needs to be as unique as your fingerprint, with huge implications for your present and future health.
