Spring Energy Shift: Refresh Your Living Space

With Spring just around in the corner, the change in energy is getting noticeable. The days are getting warmer and longer. The nights aren’t quite so cold. Plants are starting to wake from their winter slumber, and the birds are singing different songs. We can utilise this refreshing energy to inspire changes in our own environment; out with the old, in with the new so to speak.

Each season has its own individual energy. Winter is a time for bunkering down, staying out of the cold and embracing the comfort of your home. Summer is vibrant and warm, with long days and intense energy. Autumn is when nature begins to wind down in preparation for the colder months. The colours of Autumn are warm and inviting (depending on where in the world you live), and the shorter days make for less activity. Spring is when nature begins to awaken; flowers appear, and the air feels fresh and invigorating. Thinking about how you feel through the different seasons can help you pinpoint the right way to welcome new energy into both your internal and external environment. There are lots of ways to do this – and Spring is a great time to start!

Practical ways to cleanse and shift the energy in your living space.

To start with, assessing the current energy in your space can help to focus your intention. It can take a bit of practice to tune in, but once you have done this a few times, it’ll feel like second nature.

Start in your bedroom or living space. Stand still, look around, take some deep breaths. Think about how the room makes you feel. Do you feel happy and comfortable here? What would you change about the room if you could? Does it feel light and airy? Or does it feel closed in and claustrophobic? Once you have a good feel for what you’d like to change, you can do any or all of the following steps to cleanse and rejuvenate the energy in your home.

  • Declutter. This is really important. One of the ways energy becomes stuck is because of clutter. Imagine that energy flows like water – the more stuff it has to move around, the slower and more stagnant that flow becomes.
  • Go through your cupboards and drawers; donate or get rid of anything that you no longer use.
  • Burn cleansing incense, sage, or essential oils. I love doing this while I’m cleaning. Opening up all the windows and doors will encourage any negative or stagnant energy to leave.
  • Wash and hang out to dry bed linen; air out blankets, doonas and mattresses.
  • Do a Spring clean! Vacuum and dust behind furniture and in cupboards, remove cobwebs and dust down skirting boards.

Set your intention for the coming months.

Ok, so now that you’ve cleaned out the old, stagnant energy from your living space, you have a clean slate to welcome in something new. You can do this by setting an intention. Spring is a great time to focus your energy on a new project; maybe adding some new plants to your garden or trying out new recipes. Brainstorm some ideas and see what you come up with.

Once you’ve made a decision on what you’d like your intention (or goal) to be, make it tangible. Some suggestions to help you focus:

  • Write your ideas down in a journal – create an action plan if you want to.
  • Create a mood board – Pinterest is really great for this!
  • Use a crystal to focus your intention.
  • Keep track of what worked and what didn’t. This will help you next time!

So, there you have it. Acknowledging and welcoming the energy of the of Spring is a great way to shift the energy in your home and lifestyle. Give it a try!
